A Clare mental health facility has retained its highest ever compliance rating following a recent inspection.
Despite identifying room for improvement in two areas, the Mental Health Commission has deemed Cappahard Lodge in Ennis 93% compliant with regulations for the second successive inspection.
The unannounced inspection at the HSE-run facility located on the Tulla Road in Ennis was conducted between the 27th and the 30th of May 2025.
At the time, 14 residents were present at the centre which provides mental health rehabilitation, psychiatry of later life and long stay or continuing mental health care.
Inspectors said the facility was fully compliant in all but two areas, with the report stating “the environment was found to be inviting, personalised and staff interactions with residents were observed to be kind and respectful demonstrating a cohesion of familiarity with each resident and their needs on a day-to-day basis”.
Issues were identified in relation to the premises as it was noted that the centre wasn’t kept “in a good state of repair” and that fire doors weren’t “functioning properly”.
Additionally, it was found that the centre didn’t demonstrate “appropriate and suitable practices relating to the administration and recording of medicines to residents at all times”.
The HSE has submitted a corrective and preventative action plan outling the steps it has taken and will take to fix the issues identified in the inspection.
