ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) – Pathways Community Mental Health and Delta County RICC are highlighting how people with special needs excel wherever they choose.
Inclusivity representative Thomas Dunlap says he was excited to present to fifth grade students at Escanaba Upper Elementary School.
“I wanted to show the children that I am also a movie artist and do karate for 20 years,” Dunlap said.
His goal was to highlight how people with special needs can also excel whenever they choose. Key aspects of his vision for success include hard and positive affirmation.
Life skills technician Paula Judson was on location to help direct Dunlap and follow inclusivity representatives.
“We come in, we bring some of our clients and they share their strengths and abilities with the children,” Judson said. “To get the message across that we all have things that we have challenges with but also things that we are really good at.”
Pathways serves to empower people with severe mental illness, severe emotional disturbances, and developmental disabilities to enhance their quality of life.
