EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The Evansville Community came together to talk about mental health and jail diversion at a public forum called our voices.
It was hosted by the group B.R.I.D.G.E., standing for Building Respect and Integrity in Diverse Greater Evansville. Law enforcement leaders, mental health providers and community members discussed ways to connect people in crisis to care instead of jail.
Organizers say the goal is to build understanding and create better solutions for those who are struggling.
“A big, important point we want to come across is shared understanding,” says B.R.I.D.G.E. Convener Lora Stevens. “For law enforcement and mental health providers to better understand what community members in mental health crises are going through and for all of us as community members to better understand that as well.”
Stevens says B.R.I.D.G.E. hopes to have more events like this in the future.
