San Francisco leaders are working on a new bill they say would allow the treatment of those battling mental illness if they don’t want the help. The bill would allow the courts to authorize involuntary medication for some people with serious mental health conditions.

Finally. Hopefully they can get the details right. The mentally ill have the right to use the streets like everyone else as long as they're not living there. However, they need a stronger inducement to stay medicated if experts agree that it's in their best interest.
Most people living with severe mental disorders are left to fend for themselves and their ability to make decisions regarding their personal well- being is incapacitated – the state has a moral obligation to help prevent people from doing more harm to themselves.
Being homeless will drive a normal person to insanity. Insanity is the way to cope with your being homeless. Giving them medication will drive them to suicide when the illusion fades.
"Even if they don't want the help" Nope. And when San Francisco types find themselves agreeing with the general attitude and takes of MAGA Trump people, maybe it's time for a little reflection.
Cheaper to euthanize and cremate
Get that they will bring them to a county hospital and force them to take the medication and then dump them back on the street. So who is paying for this the city of SF, State of California. or the Feds?
So don’t spend too much time sitting on one place, because you may get picked up and forced to be medicated by the authorities.

This just isn't right. Mental illness is not a crime and should not require such legal precedent to forcibly medicate individuals. They're only doing this because they don't want to spend the money to operate humane asylums which is why the introduction of antipsychotics happened in the first place. People don't need antipsychotics and antidepressants to be healthy. They need counselling and social support. If they refuse either of those things, then I can see a reason to introduce something like this, but I know people who are forcibly medicated who are well in their right frame of mind simply because they had a suicide attempt almost a decade prior. It's absolutely disheartening.

SF cannot be a magnet for crazies/junkies to live how they want and get benefits to enable it. Great news!! Officials need to focus on getting junkies/crazies off the street.

need to put air tags on them to make sure we know where these guys are.
if they don't want treatment hopefully they will go somewhere else and impose their problems on other people.
Question what about big pharmaceutical companies medication that creates the side effects of the system 😊oh we don't look at the products creating the illness just the individual who has the side effects

This is already legal. I disagree with it, because, scientists and doctors do not understand how these psychiatric medications work, and they can make things worse. Most of them are also not to be taken with other drugs or alcohol. Many have horrible side effects such as violence and suicidal ideation. This is often looked on as a easy fix… but it is not that at all…… sometimes people need to eat healthy food, get sunshine, and sleep….. but sometimes there are other issues, and a one size for all will not work. This is very dangerous to say a court would know what is better for a person than the person themselves is loss of freedom.

Do you mean more life on the sidewalk and bushes eating out of garbage cans with no access to clean water or restrooms like has been SOP in the city for decades since the Tech Genius took over the city and open are drug markets were starting to also pop up with the flood of migrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico? Too bad the Governor closed down the Sonoma health center to sell to billionaire real estate investors for luxury homes. It was designed in the 1800s to handle mentally ill and such. Most are helped just by a safe environment and good nutrition and water along with supervision and back then they didn't have magic pills. There is a historical placard in an open field on the property that says why it was created and how it worked. It was a self-sufficient facility. But in 2026 it was decided luxury homes were much better for society than fixing the horror show on the streets today.
They need to leave it the way it is. Don't force people to accept help if they don't want it especially if they are nonviolent or not breaking any laws. That can make things worse forcing people to receive help if they refuse it.
As they should be , that's a problem all across this country , mentally ill running amuck with ZERO supervision . They will NOT get help , unless forced. In the mean time , doing more drugs , alchohol , petty and sometimes deadly crimes against businesses and law abiding citizens. 🙄
