LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – A welfare check call led Laredo police to an armed man in a mental health crisis who refused to comply with officer commands before being detained, police said.
Officers were called just after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, to the area of Saunders St. and Loop 20 after someone reported a man was armed and in crisis.
Officers located 31-year-old Alfredo Ibarra inside a gray Ford F-150. Ibarra refused to follow orders before he was detained, police said.
Officers found a handgun on Ibarra and determined he had an active emergency protective order against him.
Ibarra now faces felony charges, including attempted aggravated assault on a police officer.
The investigation is ongoing.
