WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Students at Wichita South High School received a $500 check after winning a youth public service contest organized by Wichita Metro Crime Commission.

The students are members of the school’s PACT group, which stands for ‘Protecting All Communities Together.’ Their winning project, “De-Stress for Success: Mental Health Awareness” focuses on helping students manage stress during finals and other high-pressure times throughout the school year.

Teacher Melissa Siewert says students plan to organize activities such as coloring, listening to calming music and creating spaces where students can relax and talk with their peers. They also plan to leave positive notes around the school building to encourage other students.

The contest is held each year in partnership with Wichita Public Schools.
