LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Employees at Border Region Behavioral Health Center participated in an equine therapy session Monday morning, using interaction with a horse as a way to manage workplace stress.
The wellness event, organized by the center, gave approximately 20 staff members the opportunity to pet and hug the horse during the session.
Border Region says its employees work daily with a wide range of patients. The center said events like Monday’s session help staff recharge and continue serving the community.
Jacqueline Lopez of Border Region Behavioral Health Center said horses can detect how a person is feeling.
“We all know that horses, they, they, it helps, you know, they know, they can sense how a person is feeling, okay? They can sense when someone’s going through some sort of worriness, okay? So, it helps them. It helps change their mood, helps change their way of, you know, if they’re going through any sort of stressor, okay? Horses are able to calm a person down,” Lopez said.
