PRESQUE ISLE — A mental health agency in Maine is the target of an alleged Russian ransomware attack.

AMHC is based in Presque Isle.

It provides behavioral health services to more than 55 hundred clients in Aroostook, Hancock and Washington counties.

In a statement marketing and grant development specialist Clare Hickey said “AMHC recently experienced a network disruption. In response we partnered with cyber specialists to investigate the nature and scope of this disruption. We are aware that our agency’s name has been posted on the dark web by a group that is likely behind the attack on our environment. Our investigation into this incident remains ongoing. However, we understand that this posting of our name is a byproduct of us choosing not to deal with the cybercriminals behind the disruption to our network.”

Hickey said they will update all relevant parties as they learn more.
