RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The Children’s Home Society of South Dakota hosted a conference for professionals who work with child abuse survivors.

The event brought together medical providers, nurses, legal professionals, behavioral health specialists, and students preparing for careers in those fields. The conference was designed for people involved in preventing and responding to child abuse and maltreatment.

The Children’s Home Society of South Dakota partnered with multiple local and state agencies to host the event. Organizers said the goal is to share strategies, build collaboration, and strengthen coordinated responses for victims.

A speaker at the event said the conference is about showing up, surrounding survivors with support, and making them feel safe.

Program Manager Tanya Krietlow said, “The more that you can get the professionals who are either in a volunteer grass root, or court systems together to really talk about what they’re seeing as far as trends go, and what those barriers are to unwrapping those families with those services, and what solutions are that they’ve found, the more you can get us together, the more we can move mountains together.”

Organizers said bringing professionals into the same room helps create a consistent approach so victims can get the support they need.
