A woman was fatally shot by two Louisville Metro Police Department officers in east Louisville Friday night.LMPD responded to the 9800 block of Vieux Carre Drive, which is near Shelbyville Road and Hurstbourne Parkway, around 7:45 p.m. about a person having a mental health crisis.Dispatchers were told the woman had self-inflicted wounds and was armed with a glass weapon.LMPD said the situation did not meet the criteria for deflection or mobile crisis intervention.When officers arrived, they said the woman was locked inside a bathroom and making suicidal threats. Officers tried to deescalate the situation before forcing entry into the bathroom.At this point, LMPD said the woman charged at officers with a “large, sharp object.” This is when two officers fired shots, hitting the woman.The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died. LMPD said she was 28, but they have not released any other information about her.The two officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave as LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit investigates.LMPD will release body camera footage of the incident within 10 business days, per the department’s policy.
