Hulu’s new dating show Love Overboard turns the quest for love into a ruthless fight for security and power. The singles onboard the yacht must find a connection in order to secure a spot on the luxurious topside of the deck, where they will enjoy delicious food, lavish cocktails, and stunning views of the Mediterranean sea. Those who are left single are directed downstairs to the lower deck, where they will serve as the “crew” for the topsiders. A less than ideal position.
While some downsiders were able to move upstairs by sabotaging another couple, others weren’t so lucky. Bella Palk’s dream of lounging on the upper level never came to fruition, and it took quite a toll on the Hulu star. She left the show single despite her best efforts to forge a connection.
Reality Tea recently spoke with Bella about her time on the show and prioritizing mental health.
Bella on protecting her mental health on Love Overboard
During our interview, Bella explained that her arc on the show provided something we rarely see on reality dating shows.
“I feel like you rarely see the crash out without the relationship aspect,” she said. “There wasn’t like any boy toys around me, really. All I could do is be in my fantasy world and try to manifest my man.”
Bella spent most of her time on the yacht searching for a connection, which made her a compelling character to follow. Most of her drama was internal and did not involve other cast members, offering a unique storyline we don’t often get to observe on reality dating shows.
Bella also spoke to us about her sudden exit from the show, saying she knew her Mr. Right wasn’t on the yacht.
“I ultimately was like there’s no men left here for me,” she shared. “I was like, my mental health is at the forefront. I’m just going to put that first, and that’s ultimately why I decided to leave.”
