Heartland Recovery recently hosted Dr. Steve Voss from Anchor of Hope and Dave Evans from Missouri Ozarks Community Health for an insightful mental health training for the staff at Heartland Recovery. The event was held at Heartland Community Church and catering was provided by the Fest Hall in Bethel.
Dr. Voss shared that one in 25 Americans struggle with mental health and equipped attendees with practical signs to recognize when someone may be struggling. He also noted that Christianity and mental health are not enemies—the church can play a powerful role in supporting recovery by offering hope, understanding, and connection.
Dave Evans brought a pastoral perspective, highlighting how family dynamics impact mental health and how the church can come alongside individuals with meaningful support and practical ministry tools.
“Trainings like this are so important for both the church and those in ministry,” explained Heartland Women’s Recovery Director Adrienne Miller. “They help us better understand the needs of those we serve, respond with wisdom and compassion, and recognize when to connect individuals with additional professional support.”
The training was a rich and educational time that reinforced the vital role Christians and the church can play in helping others overcome mental health challenges. We’re grateful for the organizations that continue to sponsor events like this which continue to bring growth and awareness.
