COLUMBUS – State Rep. Karen Brownlee (D-Symmes Twp) today released the following statement regarding recent Medicaid clawbacks initiated by CareSource. According to NASW Ohio, CareSource plans to immediately reduce Medicaid reimbursement rates by 15% and retroactively recoup payments from the last two years to match this decrease.

“I am disappointed that CareSource plans to enforce drastic Medicaid recoupments on behavioral health providers, when the overpayments were due to its own administrative error,” said Rep. Brownlee. “This is further proof that the current system of Medicaid administration is not working for Ohioans.”

“It is time to fix the system, which is why I introduced the Medicaid Savings Act, a bill which will not only save Ohio hundreds of millions of dollars every year, but will also streamline administration, support transparency, and ensure that healthcare dollars are spent on improving patient healthcare,” concluded Rep. Brownlee.

House Bill (HB) 780 awaits a first hearing in the House Medicaid Committee. Its Senate companion bill Senate Bill (SB) 386 received its first hearing on April 14.
