ATHENS, Ala. – Athens High School hosts its sixth annual Mental Health Awareness Week with student-led activities and a community resource fair. The weeklong event runs from April 27 to May 1.

The Rho Kappa History Honor Society, AHS Psychology Classes and Portrait of a Graduate classes put on the event, according to a press release. Students participated in themed dress-up days throughout the week.

On Build a Better Mind Monday, they wore construction gear to symbolize building strong mental habits, and on Stomp Out the Stigma Tuesday, they wore superhero gear to highlight the strength it takes to address mental health challenges. Students wore green on Awareness Wednesday in support of mental health awareness. Teacher Lookalike Thursday had students dressing like a teacher who has positively impacted their lives, and Future Ready Friday let students showcase college spirit or dress for future careers.

Students were invited to sign a Mental Health Awareness Week Self-Care Pledge, committing to supporting their physical, mental and overall emotional well-being. Additional activities included interactive bulletin boards, a gratitude chain and “Mental Health Minutes.”

The week featured the fourth annual Mental Health Fair, which connected students with community resources. Students spent time with a therapy dog provided by the Limestone County Child Advocacy Center.

The Portrait of a Graduate Class created a display of uplifting posters that encouraged kindness, resilience and a positive mindset across campus. AHS Psychology students led interactive presentations on positivity, mental health awareness and peer support strategies.
