LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – A pair of area health organizations worked together today to host their first ever community event for mental health providers.
Today marked the inaugural “Coffee & Community Mental Health Provider Social.”
It was hosted by the Oklahoma Counseling Association and the Steven Cohen Military Family Clinic.
It brought together mental health providers from across the region to talk about “avoidance” and how they can better help their clients work through their situations.
Though members of the OCA have been meeting for some time, organizers say this new partnership with the Cohen Clinic marks the start of a new period of growth and community.
“We’ve been working really hard to build the Southwest region for OCA,” Licensed Professional Counselor Caley Filipek said. “We’ve been pretty small. Whenever we first started, there were four or five of us that showed, and so we’ve been building each month, and so I’m really excited to see that momentum continue.”
Organizers say they plan to hold this meeting on the first Friday of every month.
