The Missouri State Capitol dome will be lit green overnight Wednesday to recognize mental health awareness, Gov. Mike Kehoe announced Tuesday.
The dome will be green starting at sunset Wednesday until Thursday at sunrise, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
The lighting is to recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, which takes place in May.
“Every Missourian deserves to live in a community that supports mental well‑being and promotes understanding, hope, and connection,” Kehoe said in the release. “Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us of our shared responsibility to foster supportive environments, reduce stigma and ensure access to care for all Missourians.”
The lighting also recognizes May 3-9 as Children’s Mental Health Week.
“This lighting serves as a powerful reminder of our shared commitment to supporting the mental health and well‑being of Missourians,” Valerie Huhn, director of the Missouri Department of Mental Health, said in the news release.
Activities across Missouri recognizing Children’s Mental Health Week will also take place, according to the release. These activities and bell-ringing events are put on by the National Alliance on Mental Illness and partner organizations.
