CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Men’s mental health is moving out of the shadows and into an open, honest conversation in Charlotte. Breaking the Silence is a community-focused experience designed to help men confront emotional challenges, rethink outdated ideas of masculinity and build healthier lives for themselves and their families.

Organizers describe it as more than a discussion, calling it an intentional space where men can step away from pressure and expectations and begin real personal reflection.

At the heart of Breaking the Silence is a clear message: many men are struggling quietly, and the impact is showing up in families, relationships and communities. The event is built around honest conversations, guided breakout sessions and meaningful connections meant to address identity, emotional health and purpose.

A central goal is redefining what it means to be a man in today’s world. Instead of strength being measured by silence or stoicism, organizers emphasize vulnerability, accountability and growth. Participants are encouraged to speak openly about challenges they may have never shared before and to listen to others doing the same.

“This isn’t about fixing anyone,” said Avery Faucett with Hope for Humanity. “It’s about creating room for honesty. When men realize they’re not alone, that’s when real healing and leadership can begin.”

Unlike traditional panels or lectures, the experience is designed to be participatory. Breakout sessions give attendees the opportunity to process what they hear, ask questions and engage directly with one another. Community connection is emphasized as a key part of long-term change, extending the impact beyond a single day. He adds “the man that struggles in silence looks like me and you.  You don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors.  It’s important to speak up.”

Organizers say the experience is intentionally practical, offering men tools they can take back into their daily lives. By creating a supportive environment rooted in respect and openness, the goal is to help men grow, heal and lead more fully at home and in the community.

Breaking the Silence runs May 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nations Ford Family Life Center. Officials say the event is open to men seeking conversation, connection and a healthier path forward. For more information follow Avery on social @CoachFaucett.
