GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — The Grand Traverse Mental Health Crisis and Access Center celebrated its one-year anniversary in January and has served more than 1,000 individuals since opening.
It expanded to 24/7 operations in July of last year and opened its psychiatric urgent care that same month.
Staff said one of the reasons the crisis center was created was to have a place for emergency mental health treatment so patients would not end up in the emergency room or jail.
“Our success rate in diverting from those inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations is pretty significant,” said Laura Glenn, Munson Healthcare chief operating officer. “So, about 93% of the patients that we have seen in the crisis have been successfully diverted from inpatient hospitalization.”
Glenn said the next step is to open its nine-bed adult residential treatment center at the end of this year and its six-bed pediatric residential center next year.
