DENVER (KKTV) – On Friday, the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line highlighted the performance of its crisis response systems, showing answer rates and in-state connections above national baselines.
The most recent performance data showed 988 Colorado answers 95-96% of all calls, compared to a national benchmark of 90%. Only 1-2% of Colorado calls needed to be re-routed outside of the state. The national threshold is 10%.
Average response times in Colorado align with national standards at less than 15 seconds.
988 Director Gordon Coombes said providing quick, in-state responses “builds trust, strengthens communities, and ensures that anyone who reaches out to 988 Colorado knows help is there.”
The program will be traveling on a statewide listening tour over the summer months called the 988 Roadshow, with a focus on rural communities. According to 988 Colorado, the suicide rates in rural communities are higher than the state average.
