BELOIT, Wis. — A night at the ballpark turned into a powerful message of hope and support as the Beloit Sky Carp took the field wearing special jerseys to raise awareness for mental health.

The event, held in partnership with Stateline Mental Health Services, marked Mental Health Awareness Month and aimed to spark conversations about mental wellness across the Stateline area. After the game, the themed jerseys were auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting Stateline Mental Health and the services it provides year-round.

Stephanie Knueppel, founder of Stateline Mental Health Services, started the organization in Beloit and has since expanded its reach to 13 school districts. The group now operates offices in Brodhead, Elkhorn, and Milton, Wisconsin. Offering counseling and support for children and families facing anxiety, depression, trauma, and other challenges.

Funds raised through the jersey auction will also support the Tommy Corral Memorial Foundation, which helps families access mental health care when insurance or copays. Families in need can apply for assistance through the foundation to receive help covering treatment costs.

Knueppel said she was inspired by the event’s theme, “Strike Out Stigma.”

“There should be no stigma with reaching out for help,” she said. “It’s okay to seek treatment, and it’s right here in your community.”

The Sky Carp’s initiative underscores a growing effort across the region to make mental health care accessible and to remind residents that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Although the Sky Carp ultimately fell short on the scoreboard, the night’s message resonated far beyond the final inning, proving the event’s impact was a win for the community.
