Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that killed a southwest Oklahoma City woman. The shooting initially started on Tuesday as a standoff with 45-year-old Brenda Deer.

Police called to SW OKC apartment twice in one day
Police were called to Deer’s apartment twice the same day. Police said 911 callers reported hearing someone firing a gun inside the apartment both times.
Residents of the Southridge Manor Apartments near southwest 59th and McKinley Avenue were not surprised to see police at their complex.
“Did drugs there and alcohol and all kinds of stuff so that’s the lifestyle they lived,” said Sharon Thompson, witness. “We got to hear it quite often.”
The first police response was Tuesday afternoon. Residents heard Deer shooting at her front door. Police said there was a brief standoff that ended peacefully, and no one was taken into custody. About six hours later, police were called back to the same apartment.
“All I saw was just a bunch of cop cars parked up in the yard and had guns pointed at the apartment where the girl was at,” said Thompson.
Shots fired during attempt to serve warrant
Police said Deer refused to leave the apartment. The tactical team evacuated residents and attempted to enter Deer’s apartment to serve a warrant.
“During that time this person inside the apartment, there at the apartment window shot several rounds outside towards our officers,” said Capt. Valerie Littlejohn, Oklahoma City Police Department. “During that time, one of our officers did fire his weapon at that person in the apartment.”
Police said the woman died at the scene. Prior to the deadly shooting, police said they spent hours negotiating with Deer and used less than lethal means in an attempt to end the standoff.
“Yeah, it’s sad when anybody gets killed like that,” said Thompson.
Multiple mental health calls
Police said in addition to the two calls on Tuesday, police responded to Deer’s apartment on two separate mental health calls last weekend.
The officer who shot and killed Deer was placed on routine administrative leave. Police said no officers or apartment residents were hurt in the shooting.
