LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Taylor Life Center is using it to spark conversations that impact people across the community. Kim with Taylor Life Center says mental health is an essential part of a person’s overall health and shouldn’t be ignored. She says awareness month is also about advocacy and reminding people there are trusted places to go for support and healing. One of the biggest barriers, she says, remains stigma—especially the fear of telling friends or family that someone is seeking therapy. Kim notes therapy can be private, but as people grow more confident, they may feel empowered to recommend help to others. At Taylor Life Center, services include therapy for individuals, children, and families, including marital and family counseling and behavioral health support for youth. The center is also working to partner with local schools and other community organizations to expand support. Kim says the easiest way to get started is to call the Mason office to be connected with the right provider. She also encourages anyone who’s been debating reaching out to take the first step, adding that telehealth has made access easier than ever. Her message to viewers: stop thinking about it—reach out and get started, whether it’s with Taylor Life Center or another local resource.
