OKLAHOMA CITY –
This Friday is a great day to be out on the golf course, hitting balls for a great cause.
Rob Clay, is known for singing the national anthem at Thunder games.
“I get about a couple of games during the regular season and then rounds in the playoffs,” said Rob Clay, founder of Road 2 Love Nonprofit group.
When he’s not singing, he’s helping men through his Road 2 Love foundation.
“We see you, and not only do we understand where you are, we’ve been where you are,” said Clay.
He officially launched the nonprofit in December 2020, after dealing with his own challenges.
“Suffering in silence, feeling like no one was there for me, just feeling like I didn’t matter,” said Clay.
Today, they reach about 200 men through their online group and monthly meetings.
“I had never been in an environment where other men were together and pouring into one another and really cared about another’s wellbeing,” said Road 2 Love participant Derrick Ward.
To further their mission of helping, they host a golf tournament each year.
“We do it in May during mental health awareness month, and just to bring awareness to let people know that we’re here,” said Clay.
The tournament is this Friday, starting at 8 a.m., at James E. Stewart Golf Course.
“We have resources here that we give to them, we’ll do giveaways, we have silent auction items,” said Clay.
There will also be guest speakers. The two-man scramble tournament is open to all men and women, and you don’t have to be a golfer to participate in the day’s events.
“Even if you don’t golf, we encourage you to just pull up into the clubhouse, get you some food. Come and visit our tables and auction items, we’ve got a whole lot of stuff that we are giving away,” said Clay.
It’s a day of fun, fellowship, and freedom to find self-care.
“Because the healthier I show up, I can be for those around me like my children, my wife,” said Ward.
