COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — May is Mental Health Awareness month.

Each day this week on Sports Zone, Sports Reporter Claire Foley will explore a different aspect of today’s mental health landscape in college athletics.

On Wednesday, WACH FOX shared the story of Akala Garrett, a two-time SEC Champion for South Carolina Women’s Track and Field.

She told her personal story with navigating the challenges of being a college athlete and how she asked for help when she needed it.
