STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – The Stevens Point Fire Department is lighting up its Station 1 in green this month to show support for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

The department said it switched its building lights to green bulbs as part of Mental Health Awareness Month, aiming to encourage conversations and help reduce the stigma around seeking help.

Firefighters and other emergency responders face unique stressors on the job, the department said, adding that it wants to remind both its members and the community that “mental health matters” and that no one should struggle alone.

The department urged anyone who is struggling to seek help, calling it a sign of strength.

If you or someone you know needs help, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available by calling or texting 988.
