NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -A memorial run was held at Cody Park to raise awareness for mental health and honor the life of Tyler Vanderheiden.

Tyler Vanderheiden loved the outdoors. He was a brother, son and friend.

The memorial run, now in its sixth year, honored him and provided an opportunity to talk about the importance of mental health. The event partnered with Game and Parks Recreation.

Tyler’s mother, Shannon Vanderheiden, said she wants others to know that no matter what they are going through, they are never alone.

“We just wanna make sure that people feel supported, that there’s hope out there,” Shannon Vanderheiden said. “So often, I think, whether it’s loved ones or individuals who are struggling, you think you’re alone. And we want to make sure that people understand you’re never alone.”
