FOXBOROUGH, Mass. —

Craig Ferguson, a Scottish soccer superfan, is walking 3,000 miles across the United States while wearing a kilt to raise money for men’s mental health awareness.

And he’s ending his record-breaking walk in Boston.

Ferguson began his journey in Santa Monica, California, on Feb. 25. Since then, he has walked 35 to 40 miles a day, crossing deserts, climbing mountains, and navigating tornado warnings.

“I think if I was to show you my feet right now, I think all of the viewers would click off immediately,” Ferguson said. “One thing I was warned about with this Kansas stretch was how unpredictable the weather can be.”

By Monday afternoon, Ferguson was walking through Edison, New Jersey. He said he is still on track to finish his walk in downtown Boston by the end of next week.

“The thought behind walking to Boston and making it there is that’s obviously where most Scotland fans are going to be stationed. And right in the center of Boston, we’re going to be a Celtic takeover when you see tens of thousands of Scotsmen,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson is undertaking the walk not only to show his love for Scotland but also to raise awareness for men’s mental health. So far, he has raised more than $300,000 on what he calls a “tartan trek.”

If his feet hold out, Ferguson will arrive in Boston just in time to see Scotland take on Haiti in the World Cup at Gillette Stadium on June 13.
