STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare has already served youth when they are in a mental health crisis. Staunton City Council voted to allow them to expand the services they offer to youth in the Valley.

On June 27, the Staunton City Council voted to allow the company to repurpose an old single-family home into a youth therapy center. The old home was a group home run by the company and will now be a short-term care office for kids struggling with mental health issues.

The facility will operate Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for kids aged 12 – 17. The facility will help kids get reacclimated to life at home and in school after they suffer a mental health crisis. Part of the stipulations placed by Staunton City Council include a maximum number of kids served. According to the city, and the requestor, the facility will be able to serve ten youth per day.

City Council voted to pass the ordinance unanimously.
