KILLEEN, Texas (FOX 44) – Central Texas College’s “College for Kids” is addressing mental health through art creation.
The program is offering more than 60 summer classes, including Art Expressions, a course which blends creativity with emotional wellness for elementary and middle school students. The class introduces foundational art techniques while providing a supportive environment where young learners can explore and manage their emotions through creative expression.
The College says that by working with a variety of materials such as paints, watercolors and colored pencils, students learn how different forms of art can serve as healthy outlets for stress, anxiety and other “big feelings.” The process of creating art encourages mindfulness, improves focus and builds self-confidence, all of which contribute to positive mental health. Through guided activities and open-ended projects, students are able to express themselves in ways that words may not always allow.
As part of CTC’s commitment to holistic learning, the Art Expressions class demonstrates how artistic exploration can play an important role in emotional development, helping children build coping skills while fostering creativity in a fun and engaging summer environment.
