IOWA CITY Iowa (KCRG) – Johnson County Public Health, released an interactive community health assessment. It’s a part of their health and improvement initiative.

The survey gathered 700 responses from around Johnson County residents, asking about their health behaviors.

The survey was to get community feedback to see what health improvement projects and goals should be prioritized.

The data is being used for funding prioritization, program planning, and directing health improvement projects in the community.

The report examines overall health of residents, mental health, food security, health care access, housing and social connections and safety.

This year the report is available online for the public, The dashboard allows people to learn more about Johnson County’s health.

“The dashboard is a great way to drill down to specific areas of data we collected during this assessment cycle” said Cole Kruse, Public Health Systems Analyst.

The report says most people in Johnson County say they’re doing okay health-wise and have health insurance, but a lot of people are still struggling with the basics like stress and loneliness, plus the high cost of housing, food, and childcare.

That’s what’s hurting people’s well-being the most, especially for those with lower incomes.

Community members participated in-person, online or through mail-in surveys sent out last fall.

This updated data was a three-year process to assess the health of the community and identify health issues that may need to be prioritized.

“Our team is encouraging everyone to look at the report or interact with the dashboard. This is the community’s data and we’re always happy to take feedback,” Kruse said.
