Chairman Anthony Rodriguez today secured unanimous approval of legislation establishing oversight, transparency, and accountability measures for the new Miami-Dade County Mental Health Center.
The legislation ensures that, as the County moves forward with this significant investment in behavioral health services, the facility will operate under a framework that emphasizes measurable outcomes, fiscal responsibility, independent oversight, and long-term sustainability.
“Today’s unanimous vote represents an important step toward ensuring the Mental Health Center succeeds in its mission of helping residents while remaining accountable to taxpayers,” said Chairman Rodriguez. “Expanding access to mental health care and maintaining strong oversight are not competing priorities. They go hand in hand.”
Chairman Rodriguez introduced the legislation after calling for additional safeguards to ensure the facility’s operations, finances, and outcomes are regularly evaluated and publicly reviewed. The approved measures provide ongoing accountability as the Mental Health Center prepares to open and begin serving residents.
“The goal has always been simple: to make sure this facility succeeds,” Rodriguez said. “Success means helping people access treatment, improving outcomes, and ensuring taxpayers have confidence that this investment is being managed responsibly. The Mental Health Center is expected to play a critical role in expanding access to behavioral health services, improving public safety outcomes, and providing treatment for individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges throughout Miami-Dade County.
