WPS announced the acquisition of Mavida Health, a digital mental health company focused on providing clinical care and community support for women and families throughout the reproductive journey. The transaction expands WPS’s digital healthcare capabilities and supports the company’s broader strategy to diversify beyond its core health insurance operations.
Founded in 2023 by reproductive psychiatrist Dr. Sarah Oreck and health technology executive Emma Sugerman, Mavida Health offers virtual therapy, psychiatry services, medication management, and community resources for women experiencing conditions and life stages ranging from PMOS and PMDD to fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum issues, and menopause. The company currently operates in California, New York, New Jersey, and Texas and plans to expand into additional states.
As part of the acquisition, WPS intends to pursue licensure expansion into Wisconsin and evaluate additional offerings for members. Mavida will continue to operate independently with its existing leadership structure. Rochelle Myers, chief growth officer of WPS, will also serve as president of Mavida Health.
The acquisition represents the first in a series of investments and acquisitions WPS is evaluating as part of a long-term revenue diversification strategy aimed at building businesses that complement its healthcare operations.
KEY QUOTES:
“This acquisition reflects both our strategic vision for growth and our commitment to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Mavida Health brings exceptional expertise in mental health, allowing us to expand our impact, strengthen our capabilities, and better meet the growing demand for these services.”
Wendy Perkins, President and CEO of WPS
“Women’s mental health is inextricably tied to their hormones, and yet for too long, that connection has been dismissed or ignored. From PMDD to fertility struggles, pregnancy, postpartum depression and anxiety, and perimenopause, women face distinct neurobiological challenges at every stage of their reproductive lives. These are serious, hormone-driven mental health conditions that demand specialized care. Mavida Health was founded to provide exactly that. Joining WPS gives us the scale to reach more women and families, especially every woman who has ever been told her symptoms were normal when they weren’t.”
Dr. Sarah Oreck, Co-Founder of Mavida Health
“Mavida Health is exactly the kind of mission-driven company we want to grow with. This acquisition is a meaningful part of WPS’s strategy to expand into high-impact businesses — and Mavida is a natural fit for where we’re headed.”
Rochelle Myers, Chief Growth Officer of WPS and Incoming President of Mavida Health
