Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has announced that the Rockaway Behavioral Health Clinic will temporarily relocate from its current space at 18-47 Mott Avenue to 1600 Central Avenue (3rd and 5th Floors) in Far Rockaway starting this month.
This relocation is to allow for extensive renovations and modernization of the Mott Avenue facility, enhancing services to the community. All programs and services will remain intact.
The Rockaway Behavioral Health Center offers a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model, which includes case management, mobile crisis, primary health screening and monitoring, PEER, and psychiatric rehabilitation services. The clinic also houses Rockaway Personalized Oriented Recovery Services (PROS) for individuals with serious mental illness needing more intense individual and group psychoeducational services.
Since 1969, the Rockaway Behavioral Health Clinic has been a vital resource for the Rockaway community, providing comprehensive mental health services to individuals and families and serving thousands of Rockaway, Queens residents. The upcoming renovations are funded by a $4.9 million New York State capital grant and will transform the clinic to better serve our clients and expand access to care. The upgrades will modernize the facility to include a dedicated children’s treatment space, an on-site pharmacy, and a more energy-efficient environment.
The capital improvements will enable Catholic Charities to expand its Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model and update outdated infrastructure. The renovations are designed to improve population health, patient outcomes, and patient experience, and will help Catholic Charities meet current healthcare standards and goals.
The renovations will empower the clinic to deliver critical services to individuals with mental health substance misuse disorders while expanding annual capacity by 25 percent from 630 to 790 clients per year. Modernizing the facility will enable Catholic Charities to serve more high-need, Medicaid-eligible community members, ensure the clinic’s long-term sustainability, and help reduce avoidable hospitalizations.
A key feature of the renovation of the Rockaway Behavioral Health Clinic will be the creation of a dedicated children’s treatment space that provides specialized behavioral health care to children and families, including play therapy, in a safe and supportive environment.
The redesigned facility will also include an on-site pharmacy and new office space for clinicians to offer integrated primary care services.
Additional improvements will enhance the facility’s infrastructure to create a safer, more energy-efficient, and more accessible environment for all clients and staff. Renovations will include enhanced HVAC and ventilation systems, improved accessibility, advanced IT and telehealth capabilities, upgraded security features, and flood prevention measures.
Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens remains committed to serving the Rockaway community throughout the renovation period. All services at the Rockaway Behavioral Health Clinic will continue without interruption at the temporary location at 1600 Center Avenue. The organization looks forward to welcoming clients back to a state-of-the-art Mott Avenue clinic in 2027.
