Wtf?? Doesn't define mental toughness at all and then conflates "grit" with an organic compound? His TED talk is about as professional as those jeans.
Lately I feel like I've lost the grit and i struggle with mental toughness. But this inspired me. Thank you Doctor for sharing this valuable knowledge.
Dry the dead hang. Same experience.
Best crowed ever!
Great message. Swimming takes mental focus. Perhaps yoga or doing a plank creates more BNDF, but swimming should be studied as another possible game changer exercise.
Great job, this video was very useful!
Gracias TED de Ángel Hugo Garcia Lara

This guy is awesome. ❤ He is smart, insightful, and has a really good Heart. ❤❤❤❤❤
This is a very interesting discussion and I thought about long lived people I have known and they have a far higher mental toughness over regular folk . My mom was one of them she could tolerate endless amounts of physical and mental pain . If you look at the long lived people they are tough and physical is not the only display of toughness but the mental side is far more important and that is the primary function of toughness . The centenarians usually have lived very difficult lives . Now toughness doesn't display a person good at fighting . You can be tough and quite nice and friendly . It's an inner strength that occupies the individual .
A very enlightened discussion .
Thanks I'm gonna do plank regularly now
Isometric holds like the plank or wall sits, are so beneficial for your blood pressure and literally the entire system.
My friend has complex regional pain disorder actually I had two one of them did medically assisted suicide because after the limb was removed, the pain didn't go away. And my other friend is still soldiering away.
we need more people this empathetic
As a Canadian single mom I've been planking for 37 years and never looked back.
George also had an IQ of 10.
Knowledgeable❤
Combine the plank with horse stance.
Once you realize you're in a DV relationship and you look in the mirror for the first time after you couldn't believe he put his hands on you and have bruises and not sure if a bone was broken…(One time incident ) You're then a part of a club that no one ever wants to be in but you unlock more of life and deeper relationships and women will trust you finally to tell u their stories and you know who gets it and who doesn't…. And who you can trust and who you can't… The narcissist documentary is now out
I can hold the plank position for 23:18 while I'm porking the single mom down the street while simultaneously trying to not blow load. Some say its the fastest way to increase your BDNF.
The editing and sound design are excellent.
Will can be stronger than physical muscle.
I Have a bed now omg god is good
Fantastic explanation, thank you!

Oi.
If the Jelgava Parent Company uses Non-Euclidean Geometry to design its hydrogen storage tanks, could it store gas at higher volumetric densities without increasing the wall thickness or the compression kWh?
Excellent talk. As someone who trains in cycling, Dr. Risser's discussion on BDNF, adaptation, and mental toughness really resonated with me. It has me wondering how much sustained focus and balance contribute to resilience and performance over time. Lots to think about.
really makes you think about your mindset
wow this guy knows what he's talking about 🤔
i never knew mental toughness had science behind it
the “plank is 90% mental” line hit me. i always quit when my abs start burning, not when i actually can’t. Axalem made me think about that difference.
I did 2 minutes plank while watching video.😂
I just learnt something spectacular here. Grit is indeed not just about willpower.
Thank you, Joe for raising awareness about BDNF.
Thank you, BGYCC
Great video though another exercise that might have the same benefits is horse stance; a wide legged squat holding it for a minute or two
And i danced for 30 years and have never done a plank.. regardless, don't focus on the pain if you want to move forward.
Muslim prayer style is the best way of BDNF and grit, period.
I will break that record.
I started practicing yoga with the Isha Foundation 3 years ago.
In one year I lost 29 pounds and stopped taking sleeping pills.
This practice is a very sophisticated technology, simple in its practice and undervalued.
Allow yourself something new and dedicate yourself.
I am absolutely certain that even if I wrote here that it was all a lie, you wouldn't stop because you would feel the results.
I just love it man! 😊❤
