Men's Health Month

MAHONING COUNTY – The Mahoning County Suicide Prevention Coalition met this morning along with representatives from Man Therapy Ohio, to discuss how to reduce the stigma around men’s mental health.

Man Therapy is a free online resource where men and their loved ones can access all things men’s mental health and well-being, with over 3,246 national & local resources available. Their goal is to reduce the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.

The Mahoning County Health & Recovery Board is working with Man Therapy to look for solutions to the staggering number of male suicide deaths in Ohio and Mahoning county. Men account for about 80% of all suicide deaths in the state. Since January, there have been 17 reported suicide deaths in Mahoning County.

The Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board is partnering with Man Therapy in an effort to provide resources to men and support them to seek assistance if needed. Grace Lamberto has more information on the program and what resources are available.

The board is trying to tackle suicide by firearm, as 11 of the reported suicides since January have been by gunshots. Gun locks are available for free at the Mahoning County Health & Recovery Board’s office.
