A person exhibiting a mental health crisis at Santa Monica Place Monday was taken into custody.
Officers and paramedics responded at approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday to the shopping center, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
During the investigation, the public was advised to avoid the area near Second Street between Colorado Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard as emergency personnel worked to safely attend to the person in need.
The person was eventually taken into custody without injury at 5:20 p.m. through the efforts of members of the Crisis Negotiation Team, patrol officers and Santa Monica Fire Department.
The person was later taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, police said.
