CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The Addiction Services Council is hosting a free event for teens this weekend, focusing on fighting addiction and improving mental health. The annual Youth Symposium invites teens and young adults to foster awareness about mental health and equip them with coping skills to avoid turning to drugs and alcohol.
Cameron Foster of the Addiction Services Council, who helps organize the event, said, “These youth experienced COVID and they had to miss school. We found out that by working with them, their social skills are kind of off a little bit. They don’t know how to interact with each other, conflict resolution skills are down, communication skills are down. So we thought we would get together and host a symposium where we could bring awareness to those issues and things of that nature.”
The event is scheduled for November 2, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, located at 40 Coral Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45246. It is open to all youth in the area, with no cost to attend, and lunch will be provided. Behavioral health professionals will conduct breakout sessions aimed at helping youth learn coping skills.
