Having the right therapist when you deal with traumas and PTSD is essential!! They could do wonders for you even without food involved by just asking the next, and the next question, with that addressing the root cause.
Only trust dr Michael Greger.
Follow the science
You mean it could cure TDS?
circa 9:30 I'd be careful baking or heating anything with olive oil if exceeding its smoke point of 350 – 410 F. Beyond that temperature it turns into trans fat (as in it has transitioned).
11:08 Ditto, watch documentaries of Woodstock music festival 1969. Thousands of shirtless young men with six pack abs.
I have a nut allergy so Keto is a no for me. However, I bake all my foods and don't eat out. Lost over 40lbs.
The reason type I diabetics died before 1921 was because their body stopped making insulin and insulin wasn't invented yet. The ketogenic diet (or "starvation diet" as it was known at the time) was only a "stop gap" measure to prolong their live a few years at most. It was never a "cure".
Keto scares me a bit. I’ve recently adopted a WFPB diet and reduced my LDL’s from 200 to 68 in less than 8 weeks.
I’m off of hypertension meds completely.
To be fair, I am not insulin resistant or overweight. A lot of diets would probably work for me.
Menopause really shot up my cholesterol. That’s what makes me suspicious of lack of concern regarding high LDL’s.
My LDL’s trended upwards all throughout peri menopause and then reached 200.
The body ages and becomes less efficient at lipid transport. I don’t want high LDL’s and I have to work at it now. Like everything else about aging, you have to mitigate damage.
In the interest of fairness maybe you should interview someone who disagrees with him. I wish giving up sugar and carbs could heal mental illness. Having people close to me with it I can tell you it does not!
It's bigger than just carbs. It's toxins (from vegetables and fruits!!!) and your ability to make more Glutathione than the toxins you intake. I stopped fruits/vegetables and ALL surface moles went away in 3 months (they appear to be toxin traps). Megyn, I would love to tell you my story from the last 5+ years (as a guinea pig in an experiment which starts from the meat/eggs/fish/dairy/only diet).
Excellent discussion
I frequently twang between Keto and a healthy-carb-inclusive diet, primarily going to the latter for social reason, and the differences are enormous.
The biggest and most profound two I notice is on Keto, my gut feels amazing, by which I mean it doesn't feel like anything, I don't notice it.
The second is my brain; I have unlimited focus all day long. I never get tired, I never get brain-fog. Eating or fasting makes no difference, I have enormous amounts of focus all the time.
Go carnivore❤❤❤
DR KEN BERRY!❤❤❤
There’s nothing dirty about carbs unless you’re eating dirty carbs.
Compare the skin, eyes and brightness of countenance of Mark Hyman, M.D. to Brooke Goldner, M.D. or Michael Greger, M.D. or Joel Fuhrman, M.D. Also review the YT of Montgomery Wellness Center. Hyman looks to me like he isn't aging well…
i was a strict carnivore recently for over a year and no, it did not change my mental health.
when i go Keto i find myself super low on energy – how do you guys compensate for the loss of raw carb energy on the keto diet??
As a Physician myself who adheres to, and guides my patients on, keto and carnivore lifestyles, I wanted to elaborate on the answers that Dr. Hyman gave to some of Megyn's questions:
1) Saturated fats, which are the fats that come from all animal sources, plus coconut and palm oil, should be the vast preponderance of the fats we consume daily. Fats/Oils from seeds and plants oxidize rapidly and become major sources of chronic inflammation in the body.
2) Cholesterol and Saturated fat are NOT a risk factor for heart disease and cancer. In fact, there are numerous RCT and Population studies that show that overall mortality rates are significantly higher in people with LOW levels of LDL cholesterol. A much more valid predictor of cardiac disease is the tryglyceride to HDL Cholesterol ratio, which should be 2.0 or lower.
3) Keto and Carnivore diets are really not diets at all, they are LIFESTYLES. They should be followed for a lifetime, because returning to the lifestyle that got you sick to begin with will only get you sick again. "Low Carbohydrate" on Keto means 20 grams, or less, of total carbohydrates per day. On Carnivore it means zero grams of carbohydrates per day. Also, 60 to 75% of your daily intake should be saturated or monounsaturated fats. Listen to what Dr. Hyman is telling you this way of eating will reverse or cure: Obesity, Diabetes, Alzheimers, Epilepsy, Autism, Cancer. Why would you want to eat any other way?
4) The word KETO stands for ketosis, which means that the body transforms from using primarily glucose, (sugar), for energy to primarily fats, full time.
5) Eating carbohydrates (Most vegetables, fruits, grains, sugar, honey, flour based foods (pasta, bread, sauces), processed foods, cookies, cakes, desserts) leads to chronically high glucose levels in the blood that leads to chronically high INSULIN levels in the blood. THAT, in a nutshell, is, BY FAR, the primary risk factor for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimers, Depression, Obesity, Bipolar Disease and most every chronic physical and mental disorder in Western Civilization today.
6) In a situation where the levels of insulin in the blood are low, it is very difficult for the body to store calories as fat. That is why keto and carnivore are so effective at weight loss.
I do keto most of the time and do intermittent fasting more often than not. These two things, along with a bunch of supplements have been instrumental in my great health at the age of 56.
On keto for 7 years. Got off medications – arthritis pain gone, muscle spasms gone, it happened in 6 months.
I lost 135lbs on the Keto diet. I've struggled all of my life with my weight and this is the only thing that's worked for me. I've kept it off for 2 years so far and have never felt better.
You didn’t answer the question how does someone go and find a functional medicine doctor
TDS clinics might be a step in the right direction.
Paleo is a great way to eat. I've known about before Keto. You can reset your body. Stop the intake of sugar.
Stay Strong and educated.
Do a nice thing for your body…
Same can be said to eating just fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds. If you get the highly processed foods out of your diet, no matter if you eat only whole plant foods or carnivore, you will start healing. It's all the crap (chips, breads, sugars, etc) is what is killing us.
Megyn replace veggie oil with avocado oil when baking. It has a more neutral taste than olive oil.
I am a 62 yo nurse. I discovered the magic of keto almost 2 years ago. I started down this road when my sister was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. I desperately wanted her to try it but she was so convinced that things like fruit smoothies, sweetened drinks, prepared protein shakes were what she needed (sadly she lost her battle a year ago) But I went ahead and started keto along with intermittent fasting. I have struggled my whole life with obesity. I lost 72 lbs. I feel amazing and strong, I only take Synthroid- no other medications. I have lost 3 of my 4 siblings in 4 years to cancer. It is enough motivation for me to continue this lifestyle for the rest of my days!
Ive been carnivore for a couple months lost 53 lbs ,joint pain way down, blood pressure normal ,feel way better.
As a type 2 diabetic who used to be on lots of insulin, now in remission on a keto diet, I had to study nutrition. For 99% of human history before organized farming, people ate relatively few carbohydrates and burned those off with lots of exercise. Our modern high carb diets force us to produce lots of insulin which gradually causes insulin resistance. High insulin levels stimulate fat storage and inhibit fat release so we gain weight and can't lose it. Eventually we can't produce enough insulin to keep blood sugar down and become type 2 diabetic. High blood sugar levels stimulate all kinds of secondary conditions like cancer, heart disease, and arthritis. High carb diets are THE primary cause of chronic disease in the modern world. Here's a basic question – if you have high blood sugar or the high insulin necessary to suppress high blood sugar, why pour more sugar (in the form of carbohydrates) into your blood?
Amazing! I’ve been making my transition to keto for a few months now. I do believe it’s the optimal diet for health.
Killing me softly … 💀
I have Kidney disease and don’t think I can do Keto.Unfortunately
