Children’s Mental Health: The Key to the Future | Faysal Zahran | TEDxUSJ
Education should go beyond academics—it must support children’s mental health, especially in crisis-stricken countries. Years of instability, war, economic collapse, and more, have left children struggling with unprocessed trauma, yet mental health remains an afterthought.
Parents, teachers, and communities must step up—validating emotions, encouraging expression, and providing support. It’s time to break the cycle and create a future where children’s well-being comes first Faysal is a master’s student in clinical psychology and, research assistant in the ENSA project. In parallel, he is an SDG Brain Lab Coordinator at the UN Global Compact Network Lebanon. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Ideas change people; People change the world.
Inspired by my son’s TEDx Talks, I will carry his idea to the highest level of government.
In order to address this issue, stakeholders, including parents, educators, and local communities must prioritize emotional well-being alongside academic achievement. Implementing structured mental health education within school curricula, equipping teachers with training to recognize and respond to emotional distress, and establishing safe environments for open expression can significantly enhance students' psychological resilience.
Moreover, governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations should invest in specialized mental health interventions tailored for children in crisis situations. These initiatives could include trauma-informed care programs, accessible counseling services, and community-driven support networks designed to mitigate the long-term psychological consequences of adversity.
Ultimately, an integrated educational model that encompasses both intellectual and emotional support is essential for fostering a stable and prosperous future for affected children. Education must not be confined to literacy and numeracy but should also equip students with the psychological tools necessary to navigate their internal struggles amidst external turmoil.
Excellent work, Faysal. I encourage and support you to follow this through.
