  1. So many foods have folic acid added, not methylated folic acid. This can cause major problems with people with the mthr gene. Washington just passed a law to include folic acid in tortillas. I'm going to call and write them to try to get it changed to a methylated version of folic acid. I suppose you could make your own tortillas, unless they put it in masa also. It's in almost all bread.

  2. To reduce homocysteine take Active methyl B Vitamins / Folinic acid (Not folic acid !) / TMG Trimethylglycine also known as Betaine (Not the HCL type that is different). Homocusteine blood values should be 7 to 9.

  3. I have always been hypersensitive to niacin and niacinamide; would it be sufficient to supplement with bioavailable B6 and B12 individually rather than a b-complex?? Thank you so much for this video! So concise and informative!

  4. I have the MTHFR C-677t I have tried so many mental medications for depression mood and adhd. Here I am 7 years later still struggling. What confuses me is if my physiatrist knows I have this gene. Why does she keep trying so many meds. Knowing none of them will work. One med I’m on. Actually makes it worse. L-melthylfolate is what my research has led me to. So tomorrow I am calling g my doctor. I’m just so tired of being tired and thinking I’m insane. I suffer from constant low iron and vitamin d My bones hurt all the time. I have no energy, my focus/concentration is so bad. I change jobs often because of it. My digestive system makes me feel horrible. I’m always in pain. No matter what. I have been told I have adhd depression mood disorder fibromyalgia anemia endometriosis fibroids and more. I have done so much research to help educate myself on this mutation. I have come to terms with putting my foot down. I’m calling the dr and making her way of my research and make her test my folate b vitamins and my homocysteine. 7 years later and I still haven’t found the right medication plan that works for me. Should that raise a red flag. My doctor should know better. No one understands that mental health meds is not what I need. What doctor specifically works with this mutation? I’ve been with mine 7 years and have tried over 25 meds for all the different symptoms. And my body rejects every single one. Nothing works.

  5. ❤ very informative. But I would love to hear more about how genetics are affected by environmental toxins. Especially the effects phosgene gas. (Associated with electronics, plastics, and what was released by allowing the rail cars to burn At East Palestine, Ohio) Most people consider genetic problems are associated with family background Or is beyond our control. It would be great to hear more about how man-made chemicals added to our food can cause, long-term genetic mutation.

  6. This is such an illuminating video. I had two experiences i thought were unrelated: 1) my doctor mentioned off-handedly when i mentioned trying to become pregnant that I have the MTHFR mutation so i should take l-methyl-folate instead of folic acid 2) i tried sam-e for depression: 200mg 1/day. On the 3rd day, every time i tried, i would be WAY amped up – it felt like an uncomfortable amount of coffee – so i stopped. Now I'm on SSRIs (have been for serval years) and just added bupropion for ADHD. The trouble is I'm noticing mood swings that seem unrelated to the timing of my bupropion doses. THEN a friend mentioned that she heard SSRIs can cause vitamin b deficiency, so i started looking into that. I found this video, and it's really feeling now like a methelated B-complex vitamin might be exactly what i need!

  7. Thanks this was a really informative video and it made understanding the MTHFR thing easier.

I have the following from my recent testing. I did have blood tests that showed my folate and B12 were ok, I suffer from various mental health challenges and tried methylfolate and methylcobalimn B12, felt quite good for a day or two but then felt awfully jittery and low mood. I then switched to a B complex which includes both methylated forms of B9/B12 as well as B3 B6 etc. and only took a small bit of it when I felt I needed it, this worked better, although I don't know if some of the results below are counterproductive to what I am doing with B vitamins. Is the MTHFR the dominant problem here or do they have different effects at different times?

  8. I live in a third world developing country where it is almost impossible to find such valuable info. I can’t thank you enough

  9. What happens if you’re over methylating or under methylating hi histamine homozygous C6 77t severe depression
Do you do the Walsh protocol?
Sometimes adding methylated makes things worse because of over or under methylation

  10. It’s weird to me that this isn’t more widely known – especially by doctors. Simply checking the genes can uncover things that were otherwise a “mystery”. With the stigma around mental illnesses and the lack of proper treatment, resources and support in the US for mental healthcare certainly doesn’t help. For years I was searching for answers to problems that now seem to be relatively easy to fix. I learned more about my seizures as well so now my doctor and I can start managing and reducing them. This whole time – 40 years of being alive and struggling – the necessary information was one gene test away. More people need to know about this!

  11. You need to address synthetic folic acid plus the difference between methyl vs hydroxy folate options here. It would be a great addition for folks who are going to just blindly run out and purchase folic acid or methyl folate. And people should NOT be adding random amino acids like SAM-e, GABA, melatonin, or 5 HTP without knowing what they are doing.

  12. Oh good Lord, came and thought I would be able to actually find something that would help me and this has me more confused than before. What average person would be able to understand all this.
