Caring for a parent showing signs of dementia is like parenting a little one all over again. Redirecting shows what they may do and minimizes frustration… As well as respects their dignity and worth!
Learned this to be true. My mum has Alzheimer’s and when someone tries to correct her, you can tell her frustration. It can be very difficult. How do you advise we help her to navigate between rooms? She seems disorientated and doesn’t know where each room is to where she is.
My mom wants dementia and mental illness is in a nursing home and they are about to release her AMA to go on a vacation one way ticket many states away. I am so done dealing with her sometimes you just have to walk away.

A friendly caretaker.
Perfect advise. Thank you.
Goes for children too, in certain situations. I did it only in dangerous ones. NO is a HARSH WORD.

Yep redirect their attention just as you would a child!

My father has dementia and I’ve been his caregiver for two years now. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
