WHY IS PREDISONE NOT ON THIS LIST – yes I know you’re not supposed to be on it for more than a few days or weeks but people sometimes have to be on it for a significant period, and it takes like a day to make you suicidal. My DOG had to take prednisone for 3 days when he fractured his toe to prevent infection and even he started moping and sighing more and my other dog started licking his face periodically to remind him that he was loved. I was on that awful pill for 2 years cause my body was too weak for the surgery I needed. And it ate me ALIVE.
ETA: my little dog who was comforting the bigger, prednisone dog doesn’t even like him that much cause she’s a Chihuahua and he’s a 48 lbs greyhound/pit who would try to cuddle her by sitting on her face until she growled and moved. So that’s how depressed he was! My feisty Chihuahua had to comfort him!
Alcohol isn't a medication. I don't appreciate you throwing that in there when you're talking about medication. I get it could be a joke on self medication, but persons are stupid and someone will be that guy.
That alcohol one sure is important! I can’t believe the number of people that insist on drinking while taking anti-depressants!! Not only is it dangerous, but you’re literally stacking the deck NOT in your favor! There isn’t a single mental health condition that can’t be made WORSE by alcohol. Seriously, cut it out and take back your life!
Ngl, people that drink, really should try cutting out alcohol before they try going on antidepressants. I speak from experience. I appreciate that sometimes alcohol is the coping mechanism and the antidepressants might be needed first before you can manage to cut it out but if you can, the first step for improving your mood is no alcohol!
I actually think strattera did more to minimize my depression than any anti-depressant I’ve tried (and I’ve tried over 15 atp). Too bad my health insurance doesn’t cover it 😢
Propranolol??? Wow…oh noooo. That explains so much. This sucks. It is the only thing, in combination with topamax and a bunch of supplements, that actually helps lessen the frequency of my migraines. But ever since I started on it I’ve felt incredibly depressed and exhausted. No interest in doing anything.
I was told by my psychiatrist that Strattera may be an option to address both ADHD and depression. We went with Ritalin, then Concerta instead, and that works. I was forgetting to take my second dose of Ritalin. 😅
I have bipolar and I was actually told we would need to be on the lookout for manic symptoms.
It seems most psychotropic meds have a warning that they can cause increased symptom instead of fixing them. Lexapro was what got me my bipolar diagnosis. It caused a severe mixed episode where I was still super depressed but was having tons of unsafe ideas that I suddenly developed the energy to follow through with.
when I'm not pregnant I get beta blocker for PTSD called … Mini press. Miss it blocks our nightmares 90% effective. lmao in 2021 I was on adderall and Xanax. where do u want me go w that up, down or how i did crazy?
If anyone has depression, is taking one of these meds, and isnt aware of the effects, that means someone fucked up their care. There is no excuse to not be disclosing that info to someone as part of informed consent. It should always be a part of any conversation about medication.
Zoloft then Effexor actually made my depression so much worse. I was taking them a combined total over 10 years. Didn’t realize until I weaned off below the clinical threshold. My doctor didn’t want me to try to go off of them because I still had depression, but I was tired of the side effects and thought they weren’t helping much. Turns out I was more right than I thought! I got on Viibryd after weaning off of them and I feel so much better, although I’m not entirely convinced that I still need it. If you feel like something is wrong, be your own advocate.
Paradoxically when i first started taking Strattera many years ago, it was a significant uplift in my depression. Because i was medicated again. (At the time, i wasn't able to do stimulants)
Im on a mix of strattera and ritalin now, and my depression is pretty minimal.
(That all said, strattera is a very hit or miss med. It is not suitable for everyone)
I only take the propranolol if my heart literally feels like it's going to explode from anxiety or I need to do an interview or I have a meeting with someone that makes me nervous. Other than that I refuse to take it because I think it messes up my REM. I don't dream much if I take it a lot. 🙁
Propranolol treats my anxiety shakes/tremors but it does absolutely nothing for the rest of my problems, also it's "as needed" for me but like……how am I supposed to know I'm gunna need it a half hour before I need it if it's for panic 😅 make it make sense bruh
I was misdiagnosed with depression after starting strattera as a child. They medicated me and everything. Only now that I’m 31 am I realizing I never had depression to begin with.
Was on birth control for over a decade starting high school and my depression slowly got worse in my 20s. Stopped the pill because my prescription ran out and no one was seeing new patients and my husband pointed out that my depression seemed to have gotten a little better. Don't get me wrong, I'm still taking anti-depressants, but my depressive spells weren't as frequent and didn't last as long as when I was taking them
I was prescribed propanalol because of alcohol abused caused depression. Thank goodness I have neither now, now, but it was given to me by a psych. Making me question so much…
People have tried diagnosing me bipolar, borderline, depression – anxiety. But the most ironic thing is the medications that help me best are adderall and lamictal. Two meds you normally never take at the same time, calm the raging storm of emotions I usually have. Turns out it's mostly ADHD causing my problems.
Straterra was horrible for me. I really hated it and did not take it for more than like 2 weeks to give it a shot and then threw it away. Like. It literally sedated me. I didn’t want to do anything but lie in bed
My doctor gave me Strattera because Adderall is banned in our country. Never felt worse and aside from mental part I constantly felt nausea. Instantly dropped it.
Ritalin does it to me. I already have major depression. The kicker is it's the only one we have found that works. So I can get some ADHD relief and not be crippled by depression or I can have my ADHD fully helped but it be pointless because I am too depressed to move.
Can confirm – birth control makes depression worse. However, I can't keep up with the rate i lose blood when not on it. No, my doctor won't listen well enough to understand any semblance if the problem Yes, i don't have any other options
Please be careful making that sweeping statement about beta blockers, especially considering how many people with depression have comorbid anxiety and the fact that there is not a strong research backed link between these meds and increased risk of depression much less exacerbating depression.

I used to take straterra, yeah that checks out
And since when is alcahol a medication 😭
I was given stratera as a KID and got in trouble for hiding the pills lmao
I thought Straterra was used off label FOR depression?
Facts!!! Anytime in on oral BC I become very “not anting to be alive” y
if propranolol makes depression worse, why did my psychiatrist give it me for my anxiety (comorbid with depression)?? that sucks

Strattera made me UNGODLY angry, propanolol made me a crying mess

Also montelukast sodium!

Birth control can also make it better.

Great I've had depression my whole life and to find out two of my medications cause depression 😢

Birth control made my depression better! But I’m slightly convinced it was actually PMDD misdiagnosed as depression ?
No way?! Alcohol typically helps!

Straterra exacerbated my depression! Same with birthcontrol!
I didn’t know alcohol was a medication. Hm
Pepcid ac for pmdd helps me 🎉❤😊
Shiiiiiit I didn’t know alcohol was a medication 😂😂
Huh, good to know about the strattera!

Super love how I had a doc prescribe propranolol for me specifically for depression/anxiety in an effort to avoid more controlled meds.

I was on Atomoxetine for a few weeks and not only was it destroying my stomach but it put me in a horrible funk
Straterra was horrible for me. I really hated it and did not take it for more than like 2 weeks to give it a shot and then threw it away. Like. It literally sedated me. I didn’t want to do anything but lie in bed
Stratera made me soooo flat like not even depressed just flat numb and void of life 🥀
My doctor gave me Strattera because Adderall is banned in our country. Never felt worse and aside from mental part I constantly felt nausea. Instantly dropped it.

The fact that Strattera is an SNRI that can make depression worse seems so unfair.
