LaMoure, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – More than 150 people filled Zoar Church in LaMoure for the 4th Annual Mental Health Speaker Night, an evening centered on hope, healing, and the importance of supporting one another through life’s struggles. Guests traveled from LaMoure, Oakes, Lisbon, and surrounding communities to attend this meaningful event.

Hosted by Zoar Church and LYO, the annual gathering was created in memory of Carter Bowman, one of their own LYO members, and in honor of all lives lost to suicide. What began as a way to remember Carter has grown into a powerful community tradition focused on mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and reminding others that they are never alone and there is hope.

Over the past four years, the event has welcomed impactful speakers who have shared personal stories of struggle, resilience, and healing. Previous presenters included Sam Eaton, Carli Bushoven, and Tanner Clark. This year’s featured speaker, Amy Allender, continued that tradition with a heartfelt and inspiring message that deeply resonated with those in attendance.

A North Dakota-based motivational speaker, Amy shared her personal journey from life-threatening depression to a life filled with renewed peace, purpose, and joy. Through honesty, humor, and practical insight, she encouraged attendees to recognize that healing is possible and that mindset shifts can play a powerful role in emotional wellness.

Amy’s presentation touched on questions many quietly ask themselves: Why do I feel stuck? When will things get better? Why me? Through her story, she reminded listeners that behind every smile, every success, and every ordinary day, there is often a story others cannot see. Her message normalized conversations about mental health while offering simple tools people could begin using immediately in their own lives.

Attendees left the evening encouraged by the reminder that no one is beyond hope. The event also highlighted the importance of building strong communities where people look out for one another, speak openly about mental health, and offer support during difficult seasons.

The continued success of this annual event reflects the heart of the LaMoure community and the lasting impact of Carter Bowman’s memory. By coming together each year, organizers hope to keep creating a space where healing conversations happen, lives are touched, and hope continues to grow.
