Campti, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Natchitoches Parish police responded to a tense standoff in Campti on Tuesday, April 23, 2026, after a man barricaded himself inside his home following a shots-fired complaint.

The incident began around 10:20 a.m. when a resident in the 900 block of Louisiana Highway 3163 reported hearing gunshots and discovered damage to their vehicle.

When Natchitoches deputies arrived, they interacted with a male who appeared to be in a mental health crisis. Police say the individual refused to leave his residence and reportedly made threats against law enforcement officers.

In response, deputies established a perimeter around the home for safety.  To help manage the situation, detectives, a drone, and the Natchitoches SWAT Unit, equipped with a trained negotiator, were deployed.

Emergency medical services (EMS) from the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center remained on standby.

At approximately 2:56 p.m., authorities successfully apprehended the 50-year-old suspect without further incident.

He was evaluated by EMS on-site before being taken into custody for Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, with additional charges pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
