A judge denied Cher’s request for a temporary conservatorship over her son Elijah Blue Allman’s estate without prejudice

Allman, 49, is currently in a Connecticut psychiatric hospital facing criminal charges in two New Hampshire cases

Cher claims Allman struggles with severe mental health and addiction issues and mismanages money from his late father’s trust

Cher‘s request for her son Elijah Blue Allman to be placed under a temporary conservatorship has been denied.

A Los Angeles judge rejected the pop superstar’s bid to appoint a conservator of Allman’s estate at a hearing on Friday, April 24 without prejudice, meaning she can file again if she wants.

The judge said she did not see “sufficient urgency” in Cher’s request for Allman, 49, who the star had claimed is “gravely disabled” amid mental health and substance abuse struggles.

Allman appeared at the hearing on a video call from a psychiatric hospital in Connecticut, where he is currently in custody “in an attempt to restore him to competency” as he faces multiple criminal charges for two different cases in New Hampshire.

The judge said that because Allman is in the hospital and has pending charges against him, she does not believe he will be able to access the money he receives from his late father Gregg Allman’s trust. Cher, 79, had claimed in her filing that any money Allman receives from the trust is “immediately squandered” on drugs.

“A lot of people don’g show up to court and get a default judgment and don’t need a conservatorship,” the judge said on April 24. “I am going to deny the temporary conservatorship without prejudice.”

Cher first filed for a temporary conservatorship for her son’s estate in December 2023 and requested herself as the sole conservator. This time, she’d requested fiduciary Jason Rubin fill the position.

The “Believe” singer voluntarily dismissed her petition in September 2024, with Allman’s attorneys saying at the time that the outcome “allows the parties to focus on healing and rebuilding their family bond, a process that began during mediation and continues today.”

In the new filing, Cher claimed that Allman’s life “has significantly deteriorated” since the last conservatorship petition was filed.

Cher alleged that Allman has “no concept of money” and is “unable to manage his financial resources” due to his allegedly “severe” mental health and addiction issues. She also claimed that he “spends any money he gets immediately” and it’s nearly always on “drugs, expensive hotels and limousine transportation.”

The Grammy winner alleged in her initial filing hat her son owed $18,000 to “a drug dealer who tracked him down,” leading him to borrow money from a friend “to avoid being harmed.” She also claimed he hasn’t paid “any income taxes,” owes $200,000, and did not appear in court after his estranged wife Marieangela King ordered him to pay spousal support.
