CALEDONIA, Minn. (WKBT) — The Family and Children’s Center announced plans to expand mental health services into Houston County with a new facility in Caledonia, addressing critical access gaps for rural residents seeking mental health care.
The new location will offer outpatient therapy, safe visitation services, and day treatment programs when it opens this summer. The expansion represents the organization’s commitment to bringing mental health resources directly to underserved rural communities.
“This will take clients outside the county, we’re just happy to be in the rural community. We know how difficult it can be to get mental health treatment services when you’re far outside of a city,” said Stephani Klumpp, director of advancement and marketing for the Family and Children’s Center.
The Caledonia facility addresses transportation challenges that often prevent rural residents from accessing mental health services. Many potential clients face significant travel distances to reach existing facilities in La Crosse, Winona, or Viroqua, where the center currently offers services.
“Travel can be a barrier for people that live outside of a city like La Crosse, Winona, or even Viroqua where we offer services. We were already offering services out here just without brick and mortar, but now our clients can come to us in addition to us going out to them,” Klumpp said.
