BEMIDJI, Minn. – Sanford Health welcomes Kasey Johnson, DO, to the psychiatry team at Sanford Bemidji Behavioral Health, located at 1705 Anne St. NW, Suite 4, Door 4, in Bemidji. 

Dr. Johnson provides integrated behavioral health in primary care settings for patients managing emotional, behavioral and psychological challenges. Her areas of expertise include trauma-informed care, harm reduction and culturally safe care. 

Aiming to help individuals achieve stability, wellness and an improved quality of life, Dr. Johnson provides psychiatric care for a wide range of conditions including anxiety disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia spectrum disorders, substance use disorders and trauma-related conditions.

Her services include:

·Collaborative care with primary care and other health care providers

·Comprehensive mental health assessments and diagnosis

·Crisis intervention and stabilization during acute episodes

·Medication evaluation and management

·Ongoing follow-up and care management

·Patient and family education on mental health and coping strategies

·Psychotherapy in select cases or coordination with licensed therapists

Dr. Johnson attended medical school at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, in Yakima, Wash., and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of North Dakota, in Grand Forks, N.D.

She also holds professional memberships at the American Psychiatric Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the Minnesota Psychiatric Society. 

Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors, including gardening, foraging, hiking, running, cycling, kayaking and paddleboarding. Before medicine, she studied literature and creative writing, and she continues to enjoy writing and reading poetry, fiction and essays. 

“My approach to care integrates evidence-based practice with compassionate, culturally safe and patient-centered care to support individuals in their healing,” Dr. Johnson said. “I strive to create a therapeutic, strengths-based alliance with my patients where we address current challenges while acknowledging their expertise and resilience.”
