Officials in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, have expanded a public health vending machine initiative to include free gun trigger locks and cable locks aimed at promoting safe firearm storage, according to a county government press release. The locks are now available through three vending machine locations operated by the county’s Division of Behavioral Health Services as part of a broader harm-reduction program.
The vending machines, located at the Kenosha County Job Center, a WIC office and the Sharing Center in Trevor, already distribute free naloxone kits, fentanyl test kits, medication disposal packets and medication lock bags. Officials said the machines are designed to provide discreet, around-the-clock access to safety and prevention resources without requiring direct interaction with staff.
County leaders said the addition of firearm safety devices comes amid a recent increase in gun-related injuries and deaths in the community. Officials including Behavioral Health Services Director Kari Foss and Sheriff David Zoerner said secure firearm storage can help reduce accidents, suicides and violence while supporting responsible gun ownership.
