Mental Health Matters For Every Age
You may have seen a green ribbon, or the hashtag #BreakTheStigma, this month in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, which was established in 1949 to reduce stigma, educate the public, and support those with mental illnesses. For more local resource information, check out The National Alliance on Mental Illness | Colorado.
So, we encourage you to pause for mental health with the little ones in your life as Daniel Tiger and his friends sing “Take a Deep Breath!” and the “Calming Down” strategy song. For middle school and high school students, browse these PBS LearningMedia resources to support engaging on this important topic. “Mind Frame” is a peer-hosted collection of videos to help de-stigmatize the act of talking about mental health and illness. The “How Can I Stop Myself from Falling into Negative Thinking Traps?” episode from Above the Noise is helpful to watch, no matter your age. Learn about cognitive distortions, aka thinking traps, and hear tips to manage them.
