SPENCER, Iowa (KTIV) — Community members took part in the “Make it Okay” walk.

The event, organized by Community Health Center of Spencer, built off the statewide initiative to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. The goal is to start conversations and increase awareness about mental health.

Community members were asked to wear green and join in on a public walk to increase awareness of mental health resources that are available locally.

“I think a lot of times people think that it is going to be hard to get help, and there aren’t resources out there,” said Dawn Dahm, office manager at Community Health Center of Spencer. “And we want to let people know it is ok to not be ok, and that there are resources out there that they can tap into for help.”
